As we get closer to our trip to Alaska, the weeks seem to be getting busier and busier, what with pre-trip, and units, and the second week of a two week art assignment. The good news, is that we are all kept busy, and seem to be quite productive.
I personally enjoy the art assignment immensely. I would think that others would as well. It is one of the more hands on assignments we have had this year, and can get messy. The assignment was to create plaster figures expressing a word to go along with our class unit. We started by making a frame out of foil and cotton balls, and then plastering those. My figure is showing the word relaxed. I made him lying back, with his hands supporting his head.
We then had to decorate the figures. We could use paint, or cloth, or whatever we needed to show the word that we chose. As my word is relaxed, I am painting my with different sections, of a variety of greens, and purple. I think that these colors convey relaxed, and thus far I am extremely pleased with how my figure is looking.
This week we are continuing with pre-trip as well. The mountaineering group gave there presentation this week, and to help us understand just what the altitude would be like on different mountains (as if 5280 feet above sea level wasn't enough) we had to walk, and run across the courtyard, limiting our breathing by breathing through a straw. This was a wonderful way to get outside, in the wonderful weather we have been having. This week is also crunch time for our individual presentations. All of our research has been leading up to this week, where we prepare our visuals, and outline our scripts. The presentations happen next week, which means that the trip is getting incredibly close.
So this week is incredibly full, but that doesn't mean it isn't quite enjoyable. Nearing the end of the school year, and our trip, everyone seems to be in a good mood, keeping Max's class the exciting blend of personality we have come to know all year.
