Awesome Tuesday because Tuesday is Awesome

Here we are at the start of another week. Now that we have had time to settle down a little bit from the end of our class trip, things are finally getting a little bit ‘normal’ (or as normal as they can be at Logan). This week we are beginning many new fun and important projects.
Highest on the popularity of new assignments we have our mole day project. Because Max is a former chemistry teacher, he enjoys collecting stuffed moles. For this assignment we have to sew and stuff a mole, then decorate it. Many classmates have chosen to name their moles using puns. Some examples include: mole-archy (malarkey), foot-mole (football) and Elvis the King of Rock and mole. Along with this art assignment we have a mole-related Math Science Journal project; in this assignment we are researching what the chemistry term ‘mole’ actually means.
Along with the mole projects we are continuing to work with our essay writing abilities. This week we are evaluating a speech given in 1993 by Yitzhak Rabin. We are working particularly on developing a strong thesis statement and then being able to support it with opinion and fact. On Monday, we listened to a recording of the speech.

Other work includes specimen, unit, and preparing for Parent Night on Thursday. Many classmates have began individual unit field trips to a variety of locations including: The Denver Aquarium (to research marine biology), the Logan conference room (to dissect a human brain) and to the State Capital (to look at how the state government works). We also have continued work in book groups some of the titles being: The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, The Curious Incident of the Dog and the Nighttime and Good Night Mr. Tom.

Thanks for tuning in the class blog and we will keep you posted on further fantastic happenings in Max’s classroom.
